Our cabernet comes from the well-known Bien Nacido Vineyard, located in Sisquoc, in the Santa Maria Valley. Our cab from this vineyard is classic cool-climate cabernet - dark, intense, with a slight smokiness that is unique to Bien Nacido. The grapes were grown in sandy soil next to the Sisquoc River. This wine is capable of aging for many years - Dave's 1974 cabernet, from the same valley, is still aging gracefully today. We have used this particular block since 1984, and the wines from it have demonstrated great longevity and consistent quality. We avoid excessive oak and alcohol; our cabernet is an unembellished expression of this exceptional vineyard.
